I. A Comprehensive List of the Miracles of Christ
The Power of Christ was demonstrated through a vast array of signs. These miracles of Christ were written so that you may believe He is the Son of God.
- Walked on the Sea (Matthew 14:25–27): “Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, ‘It is a ghost!’ And they cried out for fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.'”
- Fig Tree Withered (Matthew 21:18–19): “Now in the morning, as He returned to the city, He was hungry. And seeing a lone fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it but leaves, and said to it, ‘Let no fruit grow on you ever again.’ Immediately the fig tree withered away.”
- Entered a Closed Door (John 20:19, 26): “Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, ‘Peace be with you.'”
- Walked Through the Crowd Like an Arrow (Luke 4:28–30): “So all those in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath, and rose up and thrust Him out of the city… Then passing through the midst of them, He went His way.”

The Unrecorded Miracles
The Bible concludes by saying that if every single thing Jesus did were written down, the world itself could not contain the books.
John 21:25 “And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. Amen.”

II. What the Miracles of the Power of Christ
These miracles of Christ were not random acts; they were specific credentials proving that the “Rock” of the Old Testament (1 Cor. 10:4) had taken on human flesh. The Power of Christ reveals:
- Authority Over the Material World (Creator): In the Power of Christ, we see the Architect of the universe: “All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made” (John 1:3).
- Authority Over the Spiritual Realm (Judge & King): He commanded spirits as a King: “For with authority and power He commands the unclean spirits, and they come out” (Luke 4:36).
- Authority Over Sickness and the Curse (Restorer): As the Great Physician, the Power of Christ returns the body to its “very good” state: “He took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses” (Matthew 8:17).
- Authority Over Death (The I AM): By raising the dead, He proved death had no claim on Him: “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live” (John 11:25).
- Authority to Forgive Sins (God Alone): Physical healing was the outward proof of His inward divinity and power to forgive: “But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins…” (Matthew 9:6).
| Miracle Category | What it Proves | Old Testament Echo |
| Nature (Calming storms) | Power over the Elements | The God who parted the Red Sea |
| Supply (Feeding 5,000) | Power over Lack | The God who provided Manna |
| Healing (Opening eyes) | Power over Biology | The God who “forms the eye” |
| Exorcism (Casting out demons) | Power over Darkness | The God who “rebukes the devourer” |
| Resurrection (Raising the dead) | Power over Eternity | The God who “gives life to the dead” |
III. Why the Jews Would Not Believe the Power of Christ
The unbelief of the leaders—Pharisees, Sadducees, and Herodians—stemmed from three main areas despite witnessing the faith of Christ in action:
- Fear of Losing Authority: The Sadducees feared Roman intervention (John 11:48). The Pharisees feared their legalistic traditions being exposed. The Herodians feared a rival political king.
- Failed Messianic Expectations: They wanted a Conquering King to overthrow Rome; Jesus came as a Sacrificial Lamb. A Messiah who could be crucified was a “stumbling block” (1 Cor. 1:23).
- Spiritual Blindness and Envy: Satan blinded their minds (2 Cor. 4:4). Eventually, God allowed judicial hardening (John 12:39-40). Pilate even knew they handed Him over because of envy (Mark 15:10).
IV. Judgment of Those Who Witnessed the Power of Christ
Jesus was clear that rejecting the miracles of Christ brought historical and spiritual judgment.
- Jerusalem: Destroyed in 70 AD because it did not know the “time of its visitation.”
- Chorazin, Bethsaida, and Capernaum: Jesus stated their judgment would be more severe than for Tyre, Sidon, or Sodom, because they saw His “mighty works” and did not repent (Matthew 11:20–24).
1. Sodom: Destruction by Fire and Brimstone
Sodom is the archetypal example of sudden, total judgment due to extreme wickedness and lack of even ten righteous people.
- The Punishment: Total annihilation. The Bible records that God rained brimstone and fire from heaven (super sulfur from outer space), destroying the city, all the inhabitants, and the entire plain (Genesis 19:24–25).
- Status: It became a perpetual wasteland of salt and smoke, serving as a warning of “the vengeance of eternal fire” (Jude 1:7).
Bible scholars and explorers claiming that Sodom and Gomorrah are located either at the bottom of the Dead Sea or were destroyed in a way that led to the formation of its southern basin.
A. The “Submerged City” Theory
For much of the 19th and early 20th centuries, the dominant view among scholars was that the cities were located in the Vale of Siddim (Genesis 14:3), which the Bible explicitly identifies with the Salt Sea (Dead Sea).
- William F. Albright: Known as the “Father of biblical archaeology,” Albright initially suspected that the cities might be submerged under the rising waters of the southern basin of the Dead Sea.
- The Southern Basin: Many older maps and commentaries suggest that Sodom and Gomorrah were located in the shallow waters south of the Lisan Peninsula. This area was historically known for its “bitumen pits” (asphalt), which matches the description in Genesis 14:10.
- Geological Subsidence: Some scholars proposed that a massive earthquake caused the ground to sink (subside), allowing the waters of the Dead Sea to flood the once-fertile plain where the cities stood.
B. Modern Land-Based Candidates
In recent decades, the receding water levels of the Dead Sea have revealed more of the southern shoreline, leading many archaeologists to favor sites on the surrounding land rather than under the water.
- Bab edh-Dhra and Numeira: Located on the southeastern shore of the Dead Sea, these Early Bronze Age cities show evidence of violent destruction by fire. Scholars like Walter Rast and Thomas Schaub have proposed these as the most likely candidates for Sodom and Gomorrah.
- Tall el-Hammam: More recently, Dr. Steven Collins has argued for a northern location (northeast of the Dead Sea). His team found evidence of a high-heat “cosmic airburst” (like a meteor) that destroyed the city and reportedly blanketed the area in salt from the Dead Sea, making the land unculturable for centuries.
C. The “Dead Sea Transformation” View
Some scholars argue that the destruction didn’t just happen near the sea, but that the catastrophe itself fundamentally changed the geography of the region.
- Genesis 13:10 describes the area before the destruction as being “well watered… like the garden of the Lord.”
- Scholars who hold this view believe the “brimstone and fire” judgment involved a massive release of subterranean salt and petroleum, effectively “killing” the freshwater valley and turning it into the hypersaline environment we now know as the Dead Sea.
Scholar Perspectives-Destruction of Sodom- Example of The Power of Christ
| Scholar/Theory | Proposed Location | Evidence Cited |
| Traditional/Albright | Submerged (Southern Basin) | Biblical link to “Vale of Siddim”; Bitumen pits. |
| Rast & Schaub | Bab edh-Dhra (Southeast Shore) | Massive ash layers; early Bronze Age ruins. |
| Steven Collins | Tall el-Hammam (Northeast Shore) | Meteor airburst theory; “shocked quartz” evidence. |
2. Tyre: Siege and Submersion-Showed The Power of Christ
Tyre was a wealthy, arrogant maritime powerhouse that rejoiced over the fall of Jerusalem.
- The Punishment: A series of conquests ending in total ruin. Ezekiel prophesied that many nations would come against her. In 586-573 BC Nebuchadnezzar besieged it for 13 years, and later, Alexander the Great in 332 BC scraped in just 7 months the very dust of the city into the sea to build a causeway to reach the island fortress.
- Gap: The prophetic gap between the Nebuchadnezzar and Alexander was 241 years before the prophecies was eventually completed (573 BC-332 BC=241). It was centuries in coming but God fulfilled His prophecies.
- Wave after Wave, Eze. 26:3: After Alexander came the Romans, then the Muslims, 638 AD, and the Crusaders followed in 1124 AD, and then finally, the Muslims took it back laid it in ruins in 1291. Tyre never recovered again (The Expositor’s Bible Commentary).
- Status: The prophecy stated it would become “a place for spreading nets in the midst of the sea” and would never be rebuilt to its former glory (Ezekiel 26:5, 14).
3. Sidon: Pestilence and Blood
Sidon was the “mother city” of Tyre, known for its idolatry and its negative influence on Israel (including the origin of the powerful heathen Queen Jezebel).
- The Punishment: Unlike Sodom’s total fire or Tyre’s submersion, Sidon’s judgment was characterized by war and disease. Ezekiel 28:23 says: “For I will send pestilence upon her, and blood in her streets; the wounded shall be judged in her midst by the sword against her on every side.”
- Status: It was severely diminished through successive Persian, Greek, and Roman conquests, losing its sovereign power and becoming a spectacle of God’s judgment on idolatry.
Side note: Some of the Greeks today are descended from the Israelites, Joel 3:6.
Tyre and Sidon reached the height of their power between the 12th and 8th centuries BC. The famous confrontation between Elijah and Jezebel occurred around the 9th century BC on Mount Carmel. It was there that the power of God was displayed against pagan idols, as recorded in 1 Kings 18. Many Christians view this victory as manifestation of the Power of Christ over false gods.
Elijah’s journey from Mount Carmel, near the border of Tyre, took him through Beersheba and eventually to Mount Sinai. This 40-day and 40-night trek covered a distance of over 480 kilometers. Remarkably, an ‘Elijah’s Cave’ is located in northwestern Saudi Arabia and can even be found on Google Maps today.
Many believe Jabal Maqla in Saudi Arabia is the real Mt. Horeb or Mount Sinai. Proponents cite the massive Split Rock at Rephidim, the Twelve Pillars, the Pillars of Solomon in Nuweiba Land Bridge and in the other side of the Aqaba, and various Bull Petroglyphs, and even a cemetery for those who died after worshipping the golden calf, as physical proofs.
The Evidence at Nuweiba Land Bridge
The Nuweiba site is central to the “Saudi Sinai” theory because it provides a logical underwater path from Egypt to Midian (modern-day Saudi Arabia).
| Feature | Description | Biblical Connection |
| The Land Bridge | A natural underwater “slope” with a relatively gentle grade. | The path through the “mighty waters.” |
| Coral Formations | Disc-shaped and axle-like corals that resemble 18th-Dynasty chariots. | The destruction of Pharaoh’s army (Exodus 14). |
| Nuweiba Beach | A massive plain large enough to hold millions of people. | The encampment before the crossing. |
Mt. Sinai is linked to the ‘spiritual Rock’ of Christ mentioned in 1 Corinthians 10:4, 9, marking it as a place of profound biblical significance of the Power of Christ.
While some scholarly articles attempt to debunk Jabal Maqla as the biblical Mount Sinai, the physical evidences are overwhelmingly powerful. Compared to these tangible landmarks, the academic counter-arguments often feel like long-winded circumlocution and empty, intellectual braggadocio.
I have no FAITH on intellectuals, which even presented with irrefutable proofs, still cling on their lofty ideas, 1 Cor. 1:20.
Comparison Summary: The “Degree” of Judgment
In Matthew 11:21–24, Jesus uses these three cities to emphasize that judgment is not just about the act of sin, but the rejection of light.
| City | Nature of Punishment | Why Jesus Mentioned Them |
| Sodom | Immediate, supernatural fire | If Sodom had seen Christ’s miracles, it would have remained. |
| Tyre | Gradual ruin and scraping of dust | They would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. |
| Sidon | Pestilence and the sword | It will be “more tolerable” for them in the day of judgment than for Capernaum. |
V. Future Judgment for Rejecting the Power of Christ-
The Power of Christ will eventually be manifested in final judgment for all who reject His truth:
- Those who will not listen: Jesus said His words would judge them in the last day (John 12:48). All the words of the Bible, the Law Book of the Revelation are the Words of Christ, Rev. 20:12.
- False Teachers, Apostles, and Prophets: Those who used His name for deception will be rejected. Matthew 7:23 “And then I declare to them, I never knew you. Depart from me you who practice lawlessness.”
Lawlessness means sin and sin is the transgression of God’s laws. Christ said to his disciple to obey everything I have commanded you.
Zechariah and Elizabeth were called righteous because the obeyed all the commandments of God.
People who performed religious acts in Christ’s name, like prophecy or casting out demons, if they are violating God’s commandments, will be rejected if they don’t have a genuine, transformed relationship with Christ, highlighting that true faith involves obedience and a changed heart, not just outward works or self-deception.
- The Beast, The False Prophet, and Satan: All will be cast into the lake of fire (Revelation 19:20, 20:10).
VI. What Should Christians Do- Use The Power of Christ
In response to the Power of Christ, the New Testament provides a roadmap:
- Repent and Believe the Gospel: Turning from self-reliance toward God (Mark 1:15).
- Hearken (Listen and Obey) His Words: Building your house on the “Rock” (Matthew 7:24).
- Receive the Testimony of the “Rock”: Accept Him as both Savior and Lord (John 1:12).
- Watch and Be Ready: Maintaining spiritual sobriety for His return (Matthew 24:42).
Many preachers are teachings that the laws, the Torah, are done away contrary to what Christ pronounced in Matt. 5:17-19. Do not follow these false teachers. They practice lawlessness.
